Activity that may be supported:
- young artists developing their own
projects
- individuals, small groups or non-profit
organisations encouraging the participation of young people in arts
activities as planners, creators, performers and audience
- youth arts practitioners and young
artists wishing to further their professional development
- youth groups and organisations who
can demonstrate wider community involvement and the involvement of young
people from outside the group or organisation in the activity
- individuals or organisations which
have a good track record and who want to explore a new area in their
chosen art form or across art forms
- individuals participating in quality
training/mentoring programs
- organisations developing training
programs/mentoring schemes for young artists which will continue to
be available for other young artists beyond the funding period
Specific Exclusions
- Individuals and companies who are
in receipt of program funding from SAYAB
- Curriculum based school projects (schools
may apply if the proposed project involves an artist of professional
standard, is developmental and involves the wider community
- Activities being coordinated by post-secondary
institutions or part of tertiary study assessment
- The purchase of equipment
- Amateur, adult theatre
- Events and activities outside South
Australia (except for individual, professional development projects).
- The organisation of competitions,
awards, annual concerts and events
Timeframe
- Applications are called for twice
per year in September and March.
- Projects will normally be completed
within six (6) months.
- Experimental activities and training/mentoring
programs may be extended to one (1) year
- Quick Response Grants of up to $1,000
for projects of short duration may be available in extenuating circumstances
Eligibility
If the applicant is a young artist the applicant must be:
26 years or under at the time of the closing date of applications
An Australian citizen or have permanent resident status
in Australia
A resident of South Australia for at least six months immediately
prior to making the application.
Planning to remain resident of South Australia for the period
for which the funding is requested. (This requirement will be waived where
the grant is for overseas travel)
If the applicant is an organisation, it must be a properly
constituted, non-profit organisation or must have nominated an appropriate
organisation to administer the grant on its behalf
The activities proposed are to occur in the future. (Retrospective
grants will not be made)
Assessment Criteria
- Is the grant requested a part-contribution
towards the total income and is there a demonstrated need for the grant
to ensure the successful undertaking of the activity?
- Where appropriate, will young people
be involved in the planning, development and implementation of programs
- Are the activities proposed to occur
in the future? Note: Retrospective grants will not be made.
- Will the activities fall substantially
within the period for which funding has been granted?
- Do the activities demonstrate strategic
alliances, with a view to optimising the outcomes of the grant?
Further Information
- There are two calls for Project and
Development Grant applications every year. These are announced as widely
as possible approximately eight weeks before the funding period.
- Applications must be made on the Project
and Development Grant application form. Application forms are available
from Carclew Youth Arts Centre (Reception). Or download the files on
this page.
- Applicants are strongly encouraged
to discuss their application with a Carclew project officer before lodgment
of their application).
- Applications are initially assessed
by the Project and Development Grants Advisory Committee. The recommendations
of this Committee are passed to SAYAB for endorsement and then require
the final approval of the Minister for the Arts. The Committee may request
an interview with applicant/s.
- Successful applicants will be sent
an offer of grant by the Minister for the Arts.
