A panel discussion and networking opportunity presented by Adelaide Festival Centre and Carclew Youth Arts

Young? Passionate? Arts and festival enthusiast? Professional artist wanting to further your career? Or perhaps you're just wondering, what's next?

Held in the Space Theatre on 31 October, How does your arts career grow? provided a vehicle for discussion between a series of expert panellists and an energetic group of aspiring and emerging artists and arts professionals.

The panellists shared their career paths, challenges and opportunities and fielded all the tough questions from the audience about forging a career as a professional artist or arts administrator.

The panel for How Does Your Arts Career Grow? included:

Christie Anthoney - Facilitator

Christie Anthony has spent her life involved with the arts. She has worked for Festivals here and abroad including the Edmonton Fringe, Edinburg Fringe, Edinburgh Book Festival, Edinburgh Science Festival, Melbourne Fringe, WOMADelaide. Christie has now shifted her focus to training and education, she believes training is critical for a professional career in the arts and cultural sector.

Annette Tripodi - Operations and Program Manager, WOMADelaide

Annette Tripodi has been Operations & Program Manager at Arts Projects Australia since late 1997. Her specialty and central role is acting as the crucial link between artists and the marketing, production and other departments associated with large-scale arts events such as WOMADelaide. She has also worked on WOMAD festivals in the UK, USA, Singapore and NZ.

Brigid Noone - Co-founder, FELTspace

Brigid Noone is currently an Adelaide based independent artist and curator. She was also one of the co-founding directors of artist run initiative FELTspace, and has been involved with the inception of Renew Adelaide. Brigid has recently completed a masters in Visual Arts by research at the University of South Australia where she has taught painting, professional practice and Indigenous Art and Design.

Edwin Kemp Attrill - Artistic Director, University of Adelaide Theatre Guild

Edwin Kemp Attrill is the current Artistic Director of the University of Adelaide Theatre Guild and the founder and former Artistic Director of ActNow Theatre. He has worked as a director/tutor for Brink Productions, Urban Myth Theatre of Youth, No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability, Company @ Autistic Theatre, Vitalstatistix and in various high schools, youth detention centres and community settings.

Ianto Ware - Project Manager, Renew Adelaide

Ianto Ware is the co-founder and former director of Adelaide's Format Festival, the current project manager of Renew Adelaide, author of '21 Nights in July: The Physics and Metaphysics of Cycling' and holds a PhD from Flinders University in Cultural Studies. His interests include participatory culture, urban studies and governance.

Ianto Ware is also a key organiser of the Festival of Unpopular Culture. A key arts and culture focused panel of this festival was Rip It Up And Start Again: A Hypothetical New Beginning for Arts and Culture Funding. This discussion posed important discussions about what funding of Australian arts organisations could look like in the future. More information can be found at: The Festival of Unpopular Culture
